Kathleen “Kitty” Petrow

Kathleen "Kitty" (nee Johnston) Petrow, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, just days before her 79th birthday. Kitty lived a life filled with love, laughter, adventure and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

Those who knew Kitty will remember her kindness, creativity and warmth. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome, whether through her infectious smile, her humor, her caring words, or her endless generosity. She found joy in simple pleasures — a sunny day, a Sunday church service, a good cup of tea, and time spent with the people she loved most.

Kitty's greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. She is survived by her loving friend, Doug Dawson. She is also survived by her children, Eileen Petrow Pinkowski, Wendy (David) Brann, Wesley (Traci) Petrow and Melinda (Kai) Dodson, and her cherished grandchildren, Makayla Petrow (Michael Gillentine), Matthew Brann, Kai Celec, Jessica Pinkowski, Alyssa Pinkowski and Zelda Dodson and her first great grandchild, Maleena Gillentine, all who brought her endless happiness. She is also survived by her dear siblings Mary (John) Costello and Jackie (George) Goes, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who adored her.

She was preceded in death by Wesley and Lois (nee Thorpe) Johnston.

A celebration of Kitty's life will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 12:00pm-3:00pm at Cooper's Hawk Restaurant and Winery, located at 2307 E Lincoln Highway, New Lenox, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
