Kathy B. Culberson

Kathy B. Culberson, 70, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Born on August 3, 1955, in Spartanburg, she remained a proud and devoted member of her hometown community throughout her life.

As per request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Kathy choose to donate her body to science to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

Kathy dedicated her professional life to education, working as a teacher with a passion for guiding her students not only academically but also in the values of compassion and service. Her commitment to teaching extended beyond the classroom—she believed deeply in helping others and instilled that same spirit in those she taught.

A woman of strong faith, Kathy was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Her involvement in the church was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with spiritual fulfillment and a close-knit community that she cherished dearly.

Outside of her career and church life, Kathy found joy in simple pleasures. She loved cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. Time spent with her grandchildren brought her immense happiness, and she treasured every moment with them.

Kathy is survived by her son, John Johnson (Terrie); granddaughter Calandra Durham; grandson JaQuan Durham; grandchildren Darrien Burgess and Laylah Durham-Samuel; and a close friend of the family, Christopher Mark Reid. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Dean Culberson.

Kathy's legacy lives on through the lives she touched—as an educator, a mother and grandmother, a friend, and a faithful servant to her church. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
