In September 2021, Kris Kemberling passed away suddenly of a circulatory event in Seattle, WA, where she resided since 1991. She was born to, and preceded in death by, Rev. David Kemberling and Janet Kemberling in Williamsport, PA. After a period of residing in Maryland, she returned to PA, living in Millville, Catawissa and Curwensville where she was a 1968 HS graduate. She also attended Southern (Columbia) HS, as well.
Kris attended Penn State University from 1968 to 1970 and again from 1978-82. She lettered in basketball there, played in the Concert Blue Band and performed with Thespians in musicals.
Kris was very athletic, participating also in softball, tennis, bowling, cheerleading and taught archery. She enjoyed women's basketball on television. She also enjoyed hiking, camping and horseback riding.
Kris was very musical, earning All-State orchestra honors on oboe, and sang in the Curwensville "Search for Peace" Christmas production and in talent competitions and United Methodist church choirs. She was an accomplished bell ringer, performing solos on many occasions. In her later years she especially enjoyed listening to classical music. She also became an avid reader of cop/detective novels.
As an adult Kris enjoyed working at church and diabetic camps. She resided in Harrisburg, Jersey Shore, Altoona, State College and Liverpool, PA. She worked for Dutch Pantry Restaurants as a trainer in opening restaurants and as restaurant manager before managing gift operations. She then worked at a grocery deli in State College and later supervised staff in yellow pages directory sales in Harrisburg.
In Seattle, Kris worked for Adams News/The News Group in magazine and book distribution before becoming a network administrator. She loved living on Puget Sound and spent many hours on the bluffs and beaches there, with occasional travel to Europe, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii and back to PA.
Kris was a fantastic big sister and friend to her surviving brothers Steve (wife Leslie) of Brier, WA; Phil (wife Donna) of Danville, PA and Mark of Wasilla, AK. She always loved to be part of family gatherings, including competitive board and card games and endless teasing. Aunt Kris was loved and survived by her nieces Caity, Kelly, Amber, Lindsey, Savannah, Isa and Gabby, and nephews Tom, Andy, Colin and Cory and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister-in-law Kathy (Phil). Kris will also be missed by her great Seattle friend, Virginia Wyland.
No public service was held. Her family will always remember her in gatherings and in their hearts.
