Laurie Yoon Baker, 67, of Honolulu, passed away on September 27, 2025.
Born in Honolulu in 1958 on June 10, her mother's birthday, Laurie graduated from Punahou School, San Francisco State University, and what is now known as University of California, San Francisco, School of Law. Among many positions she held, Laurie worked at the law firm Okumura, Takushi, Funaki, and Wee; the State Department of the Attorney General; and ARC in Hawaii. Later, her passion for soccer became her work when she started a soccer supply business called Soccerama.
Laurie was whip-smart and hard working, but she took her greatest joy from the lives of her children and grandchildren, the safety and care of animals in need, and the thrill of athletic competition, sharing it all with her wife, Cheryl Shimizu. She started playing soccer in high school and never stopped, later playing and attending local, national, and international matches with Cheryl. Laurie also coached club and interscholastic soccer, touching the lives of countless players. In her later years, when Laurie and Cheryl became avid golfers, she was never happier than to reach the 19th hole.
Laurie is predeceased by her father, Charles Yoon, and her mother, Janet Kim Yoon. She is survived by her wife, Cheryl Ann Shimizu; her daughter, Kelsey Baker Kahui, her son, Shea Yoon Baker (Emily), and their father, Ted Baker; her sisters, Kimberlee Wong (Tom) and Sohnalee Lam (Mo); her brothers, LA Scott Yoon and Dugan Charles Yoon (Velia); grandchildren Kana'iaupuni Asa Ikoikawaiohilo Ho'opi'i Kahui, Owen Yoon Baker, Kepo'okela Charles Kamaka Kahui, and Miles Jae Baker; nieces, nephews, and more.
Laurie's kitchen, home, and heart were open to all. To know her was to love her. She will never be forgotten.
