October 3, 2025 - Mean Girls day, Taylor Swift album release day, and the day that a beautiful, fierce soul left this Earth.
Leigh (Perez) McGuire, of Westerly, Rhode Island, spent the last 3 years of her life battling cancer and was just 43 years old when she passed. Although she bulldozed through two transplants and countless obstacles, in the end, her body wasn't ready to fight any longer. But, that's not what defines her. Her tenacity, strength, and positivity were brought to the fight, they weren't born from the fight.
Those who knew Leigh would say she possessed her strong spirit long before her cancer journey began. She was always one to provide unwavering support for her family, friends, and colleagues. She was immensely valuable to her work family at Electric Boat and even more so as a dependable, loyal, and trustworthy friend. Leigh was the one you would go to for lifted spirits, for her humor and positivity could add levity to any situation. No one could match her infectious laughter, generous heart, positive attitude, and fighting spirit which is what drew an enormous tribe to her side over the years.
Leigh, a devoted Bruins, Yankees, and Cowboys fan, enjoyed the most life had to offer. This included attending country concerts, taking cross-country road trips, camping and hiking wherever she could, and participating in all the spooky season activities. She had a true affinity for Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger and when she wasn't listening to true crime podcasts or watching murder documentaries, she was listening to Kenny Chesney on repeat and ostracizing Taylor Swift.
Leigh leaves behind her devoted husband, Eric McGuire of Westerly; loving parents, Bob & Kathy Perez formerly of Quaker Hill, Connecticut; sisters Santana Dawson of Wildwood, Florida, and Sarah Braisted of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; two nephews; one Scott Goudailler; and countless friends. She was predeceased by her two favorite four-legged companions, Chesney and Neely, and is now undoubtedly spoiling them with treats and cuddles in the afterlife.
In true Leigh fashion, she wants everyone to celebrate her life and her journey. That's why, in lieu of services, a Celebration of Life will be planned for Leigh. Details will be posted on Facebook as they become available.
