Leslie Ann Heffernan, age 80, of Lake Peekskill, NY, passed away peacefully on October 20th, after a prolonged struggle with Parkinson’s and dementia.

Leslie was born on January 5th, 1945, in New York City to Ray and Lillian Robinson. She married Michael Heffernan on August 20th, 1976, and together they shared an enduring love across 49 years of marriage.

She was a nurturing mother and sister whose love anchored her family, and put a song in their hearts. Through her work volunteering with and around young people, she immeasurably impacted the lives of children and teens, as a loving adult who made them feel seen and valued without judgment. Leslie will be remembered for her kindness, humor, artistic ability, and the countless lives she touched through her warmth and compassion.

She was a voracious consumer of music, literature, and the arts. She loved volunteering, at one point becoming the local captain for the Americares Homefront organization, helping to fix up homes for those in need. She also loved to travel, especially with family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Heffernan; children Matthew Heffernan and Ann DeFazio; sisters Christine Robinson McMahan and Elizabeth Robinson; grandchildren Quinn and Van Heffernan, and Vincent and Sutton Defazio, and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Lillian Robinson.

A memorial service will be held on 11/29 at The Fourth Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Westchester, in Mohegan Lake, at 4pm. Donations can be made in her honor to the HomeFront Program, for those wishing to pay their respects in that manner. https://www.homefrontprogram.org Another way you could pay respect to her memory would be to turn on your local independent radio station, and sing along.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Bethel Ossining for their compassion and care.

Leslie’s kindness, strength, and love will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
