Loren Virgil Perkins, 83, passed away on November 4, 2025, in Chico, California. Born on May 27, 1942, in Scott's Bluff, Nebraska, Loren lived a life marked by dedication to education, a deep love for the outdoors, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Loren graduated from Lodi Academy in 1961 and went on to earn his college degree from Chico State University in 1966. His passion for learning and commitment to young people led him to a remarkable career as a high school teacher with the Marysville Unified School District. Over more than four decades of service, Loren became a beloved figure among his students—respected not only for his knowledge but also for the care and encouragement he offered in the classroom.
Beyond his professional life, Loren found joy and fulfillment in nature and family. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, camping, hiking, and spending time in the mountains. Whether riding motorcycles through scenic routes or restoring antique cars with care and precision, Loren embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He especially cherished time spent around the BBQ with loved ones nearby.
Loren shared many of these passions with his wife Rhonda Perkins. Together they enjoyed exploring antique and thrift stores in search of hidden treasures—a pastime that reflected their shared appreciation for history and craftsmanship.
Family was at the heart of Loren's world. He is remembered with love by his wife Rhonda; his sister Karen (Virgil) Harvey; his children Lorelei (Erich) Myers, Lonnie Perkins, and Lorna Smallwood; and twelve grandchildren: Zach, Christopher, Caleb, Carson, Izabella, Spencer, Sierra, Shelby, Ethan, Emily, Ean, and Eli. His legacy continues through each of them.
He was preceded in death by his father Virgil Lester Perkins and mother Ruth Marie Perkins.
Loren's memory lives on in the countless lives he touched—as a teacher who inspired generations of students and as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose warmth will never be forgotten.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
