Loretta Gibbs, 78, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on November 12, 2025.
Born on November 17, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Kay Lewis and James Griffith and one of eleven siblings. Loretta graduated from Quarter Tech High School and went on to marry and start her family.
For over 25 years, she proudly dedicated herself as a stay-at-home mother. Later, she returned to the workforce at Cincinnati State University before relocating to Florida, where she worked for many years and eventually retired from Icon Services.
Loretta was the kind of mother who cooked dinner every night and made sure her children always had what they needed—from back-to-school clothes to a ride to every activity. She ensured they were on time for school, cheered from the stands at track meets, and spent entire days supporting them at karate tournaments and soccer games. She brought homemade snacks to their classrooms and devoted her time to the PTA, always showing up for her family and community.
When her children left for college, Loretta embraced a new chapter. She deepened her friendships, joined a bowling league, and enjoyed traveling with those she loved.
She will be remembered as a responsible, devoted woman who lived life on her own terms. A vibrant and strong-willed woman, Loretta brought energy and humor to every room she entered. Her greatest joy came from loving and spending time with those around her. She had a passion for life and enjoyed dancing, traveling, and shopping.
Loretta is survived by her devoted daughter, Honorable Makeba Gibbs, who cherished her mother deeply and provided unwavering care. She is also survived by her beloved grandson, Jackson, whose energetic presence brought her great joy.
She also leaves to cherish her memory children, Andre, Tamu and Jamila; grandchildren, Ayanna, Dara, Nia, Layla, Malia, Kobe, Quincy, Jalen, Jamarcus, and great grandchild Daia; siblings, Essie Lewis, Juanita Wills Lewis and Larry Griffith; sisters Paulette Carter and Deniese Graves; and a hosts of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and loving caregivers. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; son, Zamani; brothers Ronald Lewis, Donald Lewis, Gregory Griffith and Johnny Lewis and sisters, Rosetta Horton and Judy Roper.
A private ceremony will be held for her interment at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
