Lorraine Rochelle Postrel Schindler

Lorraine Rochelle Postrel Schindler passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, which coincidentally was her mother’s birthday. Lorraine was born on December 5, 1933, to Fannie and Phillip Postrel. She always liked to share that she was born shortly after Prohibition ended. After graduating from Woodmere High School, she became a receptionist at a costume jewelry company in New York City, where she met her eventual husband for 63 years, Sidney Schindler. Sid and Lorraine settled in Oceanside, NY, where they raised their two daughters, Bonnie (George) & Peggy (Jeff), who eventually blessed them with 6 grandchildren, Barrie (Martyn), Carley, Sammy (Jamie), and Jessica, and 3 great-grandchildren, Max (11), Mia (8), and Natalie (newborn).

When Lorraine became a grandmother in 1982, she took on the loving nickname of “Mimie,” which she was affectionately known by, by her grandchildren, her doting sons-in-law, George and Jeff, and friends and family.

What made Lorraine so special was her uncanny ability to reach all different types of people. No one ever left an encounter with Lorraine without feeling better than before.

She is remembered by all as warm, loving, and kind, and leaves behind many wonderful memories and stories that her family and friends will cherish forever.
