Luisa Zavala Beeler, 99, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, in Fremont, California. Born on August 10, 1926, in Tlaquepaque, Mexico, Luisa lived a life marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community.

A devoted Catholic, Luisa’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She often shared blessings with those around her through heartfelt words: “I love you. God bless you, and may God be with you.” Her spirituality guided her actions and offered comfort to many throughout her long and vibrant life.

Luisa’s journey from Tlaquepaque to the United States was one of courage and determination. In 1992, at the age of 66, she proudly attended night school at Logan High School to become an American citizen. This milestone reflected not only her dedication to learning but also her deep appreciation for the opportunities she embraced in her adopted country. Her passion for education extended beyond personal achievement—she became a vocal advocate for her community by writing letters to local newspapers and even the White House on issues close to her heart.

Family was at the center of Luisa’s world. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Alyce Young and son-in-law Doug Young; sons Joseph Herrera and Henry Herrera; daughters-in-law Nell Herrera and Donna Herrera; daughter Linda Beeler; and son Edward Beeler. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Beeler; son Robert Herrera; daughter Olivia Jackie Dean; and son-in-law Ronald Dean.

Luisa had a remarkable ability to bring people together. Her home was often filled with laughter during family gatherings and holiday celebrations that she joyfully hosted. She delighted in creating special moments for multiple generations of loved ones—whether through festive meals or storytelling sessions where she shared original children’s stories and poems written especially for her grandchildren.

Her creativity and zest for life extended far beyond storytelling. Luisa had a sharp wit and bold spirit that shone in everything she did—from playing slot machines with gleeful enthusiasm to tending her garden with care and environmental mindfulness. She loved to sing and, in her younger days, was an avid Spanish dancer, bringing joy and energy wherever she went. Long before it became popular, she embraced a healthy lifestyle with vitamins, smoothies, and other wellness practices, reflecting her dedication to living life fully.

An avid reader and lifelong learner, Luisa found joy in studying new topics well into her later years. Her letters to public officials were not only acts of civic engagement but also reflections of a mind that never stopped questioning or caring deeply about the world around her.

Those who knew Luisa will remember a woman who lived boldly—with humor, strength, and an enduring devotion to those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the stories she told, the values she upheld, and the countless memories shared across generations.

May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her. A Funeral Service will be held on November 7, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 02:00 PM at Chapel of the Chimes Hayward Funeral Home and Memorial Park 32992 Mission Blvd.
