Lynwood Nelson Jr, 52, of Troy, New York, passed away on October 21, 2025, in his hometown. Born on April 25, 1973, in Troy, NY Lynwood remained deeply rooted in the community that shaped him throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Troy High School's Class of 1991, Lynwood began his professional journey with the Troy School District, where he served as a beloved hall monitor. His warm presence and steady demeanor made a lasting impression on countless students and staff. For the past decade, he brought that same dedication and work ethic to Stanley General Construction.
Lynwood's life was defined by love—for his family, his friends, and the simple joys that brought people together. He shared a deep bond with his life partner Briona Kern and found joy in quiet evenings at home watching movies and shows with Briona, Brantley Girgenti (stepson), and the cats. He cherished every moment spent with his children: Jordan Nelson (Alani), whom he considered his greatest accomplishment; Alynda Sturdivant; and stepson Brantley. He also maintained a close friendship and co-parenting relationship with Kristin Piscitella (Omar), reflecting the respect and care he extended to those around him.
Family was central to Lynwood's world. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Jordan Nelson (Alani); sister Latanya Nelson; brother Melvin Nelson (Janae); aunt and uncle Anthony and Gloria Nelson; cousins Terell Everett (Paris), Jalisa Miles, and Shanel Miles; childhood friends Gerald "JB" Bruce Jr. and Corey Turmon; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his kindness. He is also survived by his mother Jean Banks.
He was predeceased by his father Lynwood Nelson Sr., stepmother Ernestine Hines, aunt Teresa Nelson, and Grandmother Catherine Nelson.
Lynwood had an infectious love for life. A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, New York Mets, and Los Angeles Lakers, he never missed a chance to cheer on his teams. In earlier years, he played flag football and softball with childhood friends—memories that remained close to his heart. Watching Jordan excel in high school and collegiate sports—and most recently flag football—was one of Lynwood's greatest sources of pride.
He looked forward each year to trips to New York City for baseball games or relaxing getaways to Myrtle Beach. No family cookout or Sunday dinner was complete without him—he was often found behind the grill or stove preparing one of his signature meals. Music filled every corner of Lynwood's life; whether dancing at gatherings or simply enjoying tunes at home, it was part of what made him so vibrant.
Known for being a peacemaker with a heart of gold, Lynwood had an unwavering ability to lift others up. He never spoke ill of anyone and offered help freely whenever someone was in need. His fun-loving spirit left an everlasting mark on all who knew him.
May the memory of Lynwood Nelson bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on through the love he gave so freely and the lives he touched so deeply.
