Mamie Maurine Rowley (1932–2025) passed away peacefully with family on Thursday, November 13, 2025. She was 92 years old and about to turn 93. She was an outstanding wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and woman of faith—so kind, loving, and gentle to all she met.
Maurine married Donald Morrison Rowley (1928–2006), and together they had four children, all still living: Debi Russell (Gordon), Jana Lynn Foster (Casey), Donald W. Rowley (Brooke Brasher), and David Rowley (Julianne Ely). She has 22 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
Maurine was born in Vernal, Utah, on December 23, 1932, to William (Bill) H. Slaugh and Mamie I. Rooks. She was the second of four children, with older brother Dale Slaugh, younger brother Dr. Gary Slaugh, and younger sister Ann Johnson. She is survived by her brother Dr. Gary Slaugh (Shirley) and sister Ann Johnson (Dave).
Growing up in Vernal was wonderful. She had good, loving parents and a good life. As a child she was quiet, sensitive, and a bit reserved, which continued to some degree throughout her life.
After high school, Maurine briefly attended college—first at Utah State University during the fall semester, then at the University of Utah for the winter semester. She returned home for the summer to work for her dad at the car dealership he owned. While home she also worked a few shifts at the movie theater where she had worked during high school.
One night, while working in the ticket office, one of her friends, Gene, came by and introduced her to Don Rowley. He was a handsome petroleum engineer working for Continental Emsco. It was love at first sight, and after a few months of courtship, they were married on April 23, 1954.
A few years later, while living in Dallas, Texas, Don began taking the missionary lessons and shortly thereafter became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Then on July 2, 1965, Don and Maurine were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple with their children at the time: Debi, Jana, and Donnie.
Don and Maurine lived in many places in the first years of their married life—briefly in Carmi, Illinois; Dallas, Texas; and Casper, Wyoming. In 1965 they purchased a home in Littleton, Colorado, where they lived for almost 50 years. While there they made many great friends and loved living in Colorado.
Maurine served faithfully throughout her life in various callings in the Church, including multiple ward and stake Relief Society presidencies, Primary president twice, and Young Women’s camp director. She was a conscientious, loving, spiritual servant of the Lord. During retirement, Don and Maurine served faithfully as temple workers in the Denver Colorado Temple.
Maurine loved her family and made her home a wonderful place to be. She sewed, cooked, tole painted, and decorated each season with care. Decorating was the love of her later years. Always the shopper, she found the cutest things to make her home warm and welcoming. She often said that if she had chosen a profession, she would have made a good interior decorator.
During her final days here on earth, she was lovingly cared for by the staff at Aspen Ridge West and The Abbington Assisted Living Center in Murray, Utah. The family also wants to thank the amazing staff at Hospice for Utah for their love, guidance, and tender care during her final days.
Funeral services for Maurine will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4917 Viewmont St., Holladay, Utah 84117. A viewing will be held before the service from 10:00–10:30 a.m
