Margaret "Peg" (Vachula) Hahn passed away on November 10, 2025, in Vero Beach, Florida. She leaves behind her children, Sandra and Kenneth, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, older sister Evelyn, brother-in-law Curt, dozens of nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

Born in 1930 in Hatfield, Massachusetts, she was the youngest of ten children of Paul and Elizabeth Vachula. She graduated from high school and worked on the family farm.

In April 1950, she joined Robert "Bob" Hahn in marriage, and the two became one. They supported each other, accomplishing more as a team than individually. They were "doers," and together, they got things done. They started a family, built a business (Farm Petroleum), and pursued an unending love of travel and getting to know people.

Over the years, they had homes in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and Florida. They were "flipping" homes long before the term gained popularity. They were happiest traveling in their house-on-wheels, which they used to attend Bluegrass festivals, visit kids, grandkids, and extended family, and once they retired, motoring from coast to coast (including to Alaska).

Peg and Bob became friends with everyone they met and loved to entertain family and friends, hosting numerous celebrations and parties. Peg would greet you with, "What can I get you?" or "What can I help with?" She was always offering warm hugs to old friends and new. She was a favorite Aunt to many of her nieces and nephews.

Peg's best friend and confidant was her older sister, Evelyn. They were a pair and growing up they shared everything. Evie married Bob's older brother Earl, and ran "Hahn's Market." Notably, Peg was appointed by President John F. Kennedy as Postmaster of the North Hadley Post Office in 1963. The sisters lived across the street from each other, worked side by side at the store, shared parenting duties and social interests, exchanged favorite words in Slovak to each other, and continued to be close, even when hundreds of miles separated them later in life.

Peg and Bob were founding members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst, Massachusetts, where she served as Treasurer and council member, participated in Bible study and sang in the choir. Peg was generous with her time. Her faith and caring attitude moved her to volunteer at the hospitals in Northampton, Massachusetts and Keene, New Hampshire, and once retired, she spent many summers volunteering at the Life For Youth Ranch in Florida.

Peg had many personal interests that she pursued. She knit, crocheted, learned to decorate cakes for weddings and special occasions, was a good cook, loved puzzles, playing cards, collecting frog and turtle trinkets, board games, and reading books, including Yankee Magazine and Portals of Prayer, and as well as her favorite, the Bible.

When Bob passed in 2015 and, in his words, "stopped coming down to breakfast", she remained in Vero Beach, at the Sonata assisted living facility, near her daughter Sandy. At this facility, she remained outgoing, playing bingo (some say she won too many times), helping with the puzzles in the game room, and always making new friends with the other residents and staff. The facility had a small pond with large, brightly colored fish and native birds, where she enjoyed daily walks.

Later in life, she was happiest when sitting in her favorite chair, petting and talking to Sandy's dog, Tootsie, on her lap.

A private interment ceremony for the family will be held Sunday, November 23, in North Hadley. A Celebration of Peg's Life for her many friends and neighbors will be held next summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to local food banks, in Peg's name.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
