Mark Irwin Alswanger, 69, of Stamford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at Stamford Hospital.
Born and raised in Stamford, Mark was the son of Francine Alswanger and the late Robert Alswanger. He was a proud alumnus of Westhill High School’s third graduating class and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Bridgeport.
He cherished his time playing basketball at the JCC with his beloved Uncle Herman Alswanger and found camaraderie in tennis at the Roxbury Swim and Tennis Club. A lifelong New York Yankees and New York Giants fan, Mark shared his enthusiasm for the game with everyone around him.
Mark’s greatest passion was coaching. As a longtime member of the Westhill High School Athletic Department, he inspired students through his leadership and love of sports, coaching football, baseball, and tennis. Known for his encouragement and genuine care, Mark made every player feel valued both on and off the field.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Susan Alswanger; his daughters, Cara Zimon and Julie Levin; his adored grandchildren, Olivia, Ella, and Alissa Zimon, and Robert Levin; his mother, Francine Alswanger; and his sisters, Lynne Alswanger-Busch and Mindy Bottner; his nephews, Kyle Alswanger-Busch, Lance Alswanger-Busch, and Samuel Bottner; and his niece, Emily Bottner.
Mark will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and devotion to family and community. His legacy of mentorship, kindness, and hard work will continue to live on through all who knew him.
