Mary Nell Campbell-Swope, 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, entered into eternal rest on October 7, 2025. She was born on January 16, 1947, at Louisville General Hospital (now University of Louisville Hospital), the eldest child of Edward "Peg" and Irene Campbell.
She was educated at Louisville's Black Central High School, where she shined as a cheerleader and tennis player. Mary went on to dedicate her professional life to caring for and protecting others. She began her career as a Nursing Assistant at St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, later working at Phillip Morris Tobacco Manufacturing, and then as a Safety Inspector at Swift Meat Packing. After 20 years of service, she retired with pride in a job well done.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Maurice Swope; her son, Jay Caldwell; her brother, Edward Campbell Jr.; and her grandson, Oscar N. Dixon.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience through her brothers and sister, Charles Campbell, Irene Campbell, and Lamar Campbell; her children, James Campbell (Tiffini), Jeneé Caldwell-Dixon, and Lucia Campbell; her grandchildren, James Crawford, NaTosha Porter (Andropolous), Jaira Fant, Jarius Fant, Raven Dryen, Joshua Crawford, and McKenzie Campbell; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
