Born on July 6, 1941, in Pennsylvania, Jo was the daughter of Kasson W. Crooker and Mary King Crooker. She grew up with a strong sense of family and faith that remained central throughout her life.
Jo spent many years in Ithaca, New York, where she owned and operated a consignment store. Her entrepreneurial spirit and eye for unique treasures made her shop a beloved fixture in the community. Beyond her professional endeavors, Jo was known for her vibrant personality—her loud, infectious laugh and unmistakable voice left lasting impressions on everyone she met.
A devoted Christian, Jo found great joy and strength in her faith. She loved attending church and being part of a spiritual community that nurtured her deep belief in compassion and service.
Jo had a passion for photography, jewelry-making, and gardening—hobbies that reflected her creativity and appreciation for beauty in everyday life. Whether capturing moments behind the lens or tending to her garden with care, she embraced each day with enthusiasm. Shopping was another favorite pastime; she delighted in finding just the right item or gift to brighten someone's day.
Among Jo's greatest joys was raising her grandson Nathan, a role she cherished deeply. Her love for family was unwavering and evident in every aspect of her life.
She is survived by her son Robert S. Cola (Lisa), daughter Shaunna Mai, sister-in-law Marilyn Crooker, grandchildren Robby, Kourtney, Johnathon, Nathan, Amber, and Dixie; as well as eight great-grandchildren who brought immense pride and happiness into her later years.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents Kasson W. Crooker and Mary King Crooker; her brother Kasson E. Crooker; and her beloved husband John Lyman.
Mary Johanna "Jo" Lyman will be remembered for the warmth she brought into every room, the laughter that echoed long after she left it, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.
