Mary Modena "Dena" Russell, age 68, a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away November 5th 2025. Born to Katie Mae and John Lewis Jones, Dena was the youngest of her siblings and carried the heart of her family with grace and strength.

She married Bill Russell on February 26, 1972, that union produced four daughters who were the center of her world. Dena's life was defined by her deep faith and devotion to Jehovah God. She symbolized her dedication through baptism on June 16, 1977, and served faithfully as both a pioneer and auxiliary pioneer, joyfully preaching the good news to all. Her spiritual service was not just a part of her life—it was her life.

Dena was known for her generous spirit, her unmatched culinary talent, and her love of crocheting and helping others. Whether behind the scenes cooking for a gathering or organizing an event, she gave of herself freely and with joy. Her meals were expressions of love, and her presence brought comfort and beauty to every room she entered.

Two people in life that she loved second to Jehovah were her grandchildren Tierra and Talia Veney.

She had a flair for style and glamour, never allowing her struggles to dim her radiance. In her prime, she was unforgettable—full of life, beauty, and charisma. The redhead with full hips, lips, and stunning legs, "Jazzy Dena" left an impression that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her regardless of what version you were able to experience of her.

Dena was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Irvin "Uncle Jr" Goodman and James Jones, and her sister Shirley Bostic. She is survived by her beloved daughters: Mariea Russell and Angela Russell of Philadelphia, KaTrina Russell Veney of Jenkintown, and Melody Russell of Maryland. Her granddaughters Tierra Veney of Atlanta and Talia Veney of Chicago. She also leaves behind her sisters Sylvia Waters of Harrington and Carolyn Dawkins of Philadelphia, her cherished "nephew/brother" Michael Goodman of Philadelphia, her niece she raised until 13 Sabrina Waters of Philadelphia as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to name.

Dena's legacy is one of faith, love, and resilience. As 2 Timothy 4:7 reminds us: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Until we meet again...
