Merlin Yount passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Safety Harbor, Florida, surrounded by his loving family and held in God's care.
Merlin lived a life defined by faith, love, and quiet strength. Born and raised in Ohio, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War before returning home to begin the next chapter of his life. On March 25, 1955, he married his lifelong partner, Barbara (Staley), in Troy, Ohio. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in devotion to one another and to their family.
In 1967, Merlin and Barbara moved to Dunedin, Florida, where they raised their three children and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and steadfast faith. This year, they celebrated 70 years of marriage—a remarkable testament to their enduring love and shared journey.
Guided by his deep and abiding faith, Merlin served faithfully at Clearwater Central Church of the Nazarene for many years and later worshiped at Palm Harbor United Methodist Church. His calm spirit, humility, and gentle wisdom reflected a life grounded in trust and grace.
Those who knew Merlin will remember him for his integrity, compassion, and quiet humor. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather who found joy in the simple blessings of family and fellowship.
Merlin is survived by his children John, Scott (Sharon), and Sue; his granddaughter Jessica; his brother Lynn (Marilyn); and many dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara; his grandson, Joshua Green; his brother, Dale; and his sister, Naomi.
Merlin leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, faith, and devotion—an enduring example of a life well lived and a heart well given.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, at First United Methodist Church of Tarpon Springs (501 E Tarpon Ave, Tarpon Springs, FL 34689).
