Michael Durbin

1958 - 2025

Michael "Mick" Edward Durbin, age 67, passed away on October 20, 2025, in Eastpointe, Michigan.

Born on October 3, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, Mick was the beloved son of James and Sharon (Ghirardi) Durbin. He spent his formative years in Romeo, Michigan, where he graduated from Romeo High School in 1976. From a young age, Mick had a deep admiration for the United States Marine Corps and fulfilled his dream by enlisting immediately after high school.

Mick served with distinction in the Marine Corps for twelve years, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed primarily at 29 Palms, California, and served as a Drill Instructor—a role that reflected his commitment to discipline and tradition. His time in the Marines left an indelible mark on him and shaped much of his character and work ethic.

Following his military service, Mick transitioned into a successful career as a machinist. Over the course of 25 years in the field, he earned a reputation as a top expert in his trade. Colleagues frequently turned to him to solve complex technical challenges—his precision and problem-solving skills were widely respected.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mick had many passions that brought joy to those around him. A lifelong lover of cooking, he began honing his culinary skills as a child while watching "The Galloping Gourmet" and cooking alongside his mother. Among his specialties was her legendary fried chicken—a recipe no one else could quite replicate. His love for food was matched by his love for laughter; Mick had an infectious sense of humor and was known for being a great dancer.

Mick also had a fondness for classic American icons—he enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and was an avid supporter of Donald Trump and Rush Limbaugh.

Animals held a special place in Mick's heart. One of his most cherished companions growing up was Nicky, a Cocker Spaniel/Beagle mix who shared an especially close bond with him. He doted on her affectionately—letting her sleep under the covers with him and responding to her gentle nudges when she wanted to crawl into bed.

Mick is predeceased by his parents James and Sharon Durbin and by his brother Brian. He is survived by his brothers Tim (Karen) Durbin of Memphis, Michigan; Greg (Michele) Durbin of Milford, Michigan; and sister Cheryle (Michael) Jewell of Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Mick's life was marked by dedication—to country through military service, to craft through decades as a machinist, and to family through enduring bonds that spanned generations. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him. Semper Fi.

A private memorial service is planned.
