Mr. Michael Paul "Mikey" Laster, age 64, passed away on August 19, 2025, in Florence, Kentucky. Born on March 18, 1961, in Surry, England, Michael's life was a spirited journey woven with creativity, resilience, and boundless heart.
Raised in Palo Alto, California, as the third of eight siblings, Michael carried the laughter and warmth of his childhood with him throughout life. After high school, he roamed across North America, drawn to the freedom of the open road. His path led him to Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he served in the United States Army and met Sharon L. Wilkins—the beginning of a lifelong partnership.
Fueling his passion for food, Michael attended Baltimore Culinary College after his military service. On January 15, 1993, he married Sharon in Louisville, Kentucky. Together they created more than a restaurant and inn—they built a refuge of warmth and flavor where Michael's culinary gifts and generous spirit shone brightly.
Michael embraced life with exuberance. He delighted in spontaneous drives set to music, painted with emotion, read with curiosity, and cooked meals that fed both soul and body. A devoted Denver Broncos fan, he especially cherished fantasy football with his brothers. Music echoed through every chapter of his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 32 years, Sharon L. Wilkins Laster; siblings Jamie Laster Rohrbacher (Rod), Kevin Laster (Sherry), Matthew Laster (Beth), Tom Laster (Emily), Kate Laster Wood (Jeff [deceased]), and Dr. Daniel Laster (Allison); sixteen nieces and nephews; two great-nephews; and one great-niece.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. James P. Laster and Betsy R. Smith Laster; and his sister, Mary Jane Laster Woods.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him, and may his love for the road less traveled inspire us all to live boldly, love deeply, and never forget to laugh.
