Michael Conway Powell, 76, of Monroe, Georgia passed away on October 28, 2025.
Michael was born on March 4, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia. Michael grew up in Lithonia, later moving to Conyers and then to Bostwick where he spent many years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cathy S. Powell. He was the son of the late Conway and Gwendolyn Powell of Lithonia, Georgia. Also preceded in death by his sister Nan Whitley, and his grandparents Curtis and Luna Blackmon, also from Lithonia.
Michael was a very accomplished and talented musician, and he played several instruments including saxophone, accordion, piano and organ. Among the many instruments he played, the Hammond Organ was his greatest love. He played professionally for several years in his early life, and played for several well known artists of that time. In 1976, Michael retired from music when he started his Hydroseeding business, Pro Seeding Inc. He and his wife Cathy grew the business together into one of the largest hydroseeding companies in the state of Georgia.
In addition to music, his interests included antique farm tractors and implements. He was an avid collector of John Deere and Farmall equipment. He also enjoyed collecting model toys from both of these brands. Nothing made him happier than spending a day at an antique tractor auction.
Michael is survived by his son, Bryan Powell, daughter in law Melissa Powell, daughter Andrea Powell, granddaughters Ansley and Alyssa Powell. Other family members Lisa Lassiter, Victoria and Alexandria Lassiter, David and Jenny Owensby, Mathew and Jessica Owensby.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday November 9th, 2pm at Rutledge Baptist Church 112 West Main Street, Rutledge Georgia. Immediately following the service, please join the family in the fellowship hall.
