Monica Mae (Purdy) Rees, 63, passed away peacefully at her home in Salkum, Washington on August 3, 2025, of natural causes. Born in Portland, Oregon to Terrence and Francine Purdy, Monica's early life was shaped by love and resilience. After the passing of her mother in 1967, she and her sister Laura were raised in North Plains, Oregon by their grandparents, Lewis and Louise Rice, alongside aunts Teresa and Brenda Rice and uncles Bill and Brad Rice. In later years, sisters Angela and Shannon were reunited with Monica and Laura, also joining the care of their grandparents.
A proud graduate of Hillsboro High School, Class of 1979, Monica went on to work for Sedgwick James of Oregon, Inc in Portland, where she was known for her dedication and cheerful spirit.
Monica was preceded in death by her sisters Angela Purdy and Becky Purdy. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings Laura (Purdy) Sly, Shannon (Purdy) Miller, and Terrence Robert Purdy, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Affectionately known as "Monty-Mae," Monica's radiant energy, infectious laugh, and welcoming smile touched everyone she met. Her presence was a gift, and her memory will continue to brighten the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
