Myralyne Fry Mallett passed away peacefully in her home in Gardnerville, Nevada on May 28th, 2024 after a fierce battle with cancer.
Lyne was born February 13, 1941 in Hartford, Kentucky to parents Jean (Sauer) Fry and Leslie McGee Fry. Lyne grew up in several states until her family settled in Reno, Nevada. She loved to spend time at her grandfather and grandmother's ranch in Franktown in the Washoe Valley. Running around the ranch with her older brother, Mack, tight braids flying, was one of her favorite childhood memories.
She attended Mary S. Doten elementary, and Reno High school. She was a member of the illustrious and renowned baton-twirling group the Twirleens. They performed all over the state and won many awards for techniques and choreography. Lyne was very proud of being part of the Twirleens and made many life-long friends.
Lyne earned a Bachelor's degree in education at University of Nevada Reno, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. While attending university, Lyne met John Harold Mallett (known as Hal) and they married just after Lyne graduated.
The couple settled in Livermore where Lyne took a teaching position for First grade and Hal went to work as a Nuclear Physicist at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. Lyne and Hal had two children, David and Kimberly. She loved to travel and boasted of trips to Europe, Mexico, Tahiti, Hawaii and nearly all of the 50 states! She loved Tahiti the most because of the rural aspects of dirt roads, fruit markets and few people.
When her kids were older, Lyne was a substitute teacher and later took a kindergarten teaching position at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livermore and taught over 200 kids during her time there.
When Hal retired, the couple returned to Nevada and built a house in Gardnerville. Lyne adored the desert and steep mountain views from the big windows, the wild horses that roamed nearby, and the wildlife that visited their rural ranch-type home.
Lyne enjoyed sewing and quilting, often with her sister, Sally. Many of her exquisite creations adorned her home and homes of her family and friends.
Lyne is survived by her sister, Sally (husband Ron), her children David (wife Maria) and Kimberly, and by grandchildren Kyle, Richie and Abby.
Forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace.
