Nancy Grellier (1929-2025) - Surviving Founder of The WANT Advertiser

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Nancy Curtis Grellier. She died peacefully at the age of 95 at her home in Sudbury, MA, on Thursday, October 9th, surrounded by her family. She was born in White Plains, NY on December 6, 1929 to Ed and Barbara Curtis and was raised in Old Greenwich, CT. Nancy was a woman ahead of her times. After graduating from Lasell Junior College she lived as a single woman in Brookline, MA while working as a buyer at Grover Cronin in Waltham. It was there she met her husband to be, Arthur "Bill" Grellier. They wed in 1952 and settled in Sudbury, MA. In 1957 they founded the Want Advertiser, which remained in operation for 51 years.

She was full of life and had endless energy. Nancy was very civic minded and socially active. She was an avid tennis player, won several town championships and played until she was 90. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader, and a member and former president of the Thursday Garden Club. She was an active member of the Memorial Congregational church for over six decades. For many years Nancy could be found volunteering during the Christmas season as a docent at the Hosmer House. She was a former volunteer with and treasurer of the Madaket Land Trust in Nantucket. Nancy was also an active alumna of Lasell University, serving as a trustee and on many alumni boards over the past 40 years.

She loved to explore the world and travelled extensively with her husband, her family and friends. Nancy was socially active in her Spring House Pond community where she had many dear friends. She loved her bridge groups and played up to the week before her passing.

Most importantly, Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Time spent with her family and friends at her homes in Nantucket and Manomet, during holidays, birthday celebrations, watching Patriots games and days playing games was where she was happiest. Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur "Bill" Grellier (1921-2006), her sister Betsy Winquist and her husband Doug, her brother Ed Curtis and his wife Kay. She is survived by brother-in-law, Curt Lord and her children Barbara Lord and her husband Mark, Bob Grellier and his partner Maureen Letendre, Rick Grellier and his wife Alison Cox, and her daughter Alison Kramer and her husband Rick, 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Nancy was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Services will be held at the Memorial Congregational church, 29 Concord Rd., Sudbury, MA on October, 18th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Memorial Congregational Church. Donations in the Name of Nancy Grellier, may be sent to Memorials & Gift Funds, Memorial Congregational Church, Sudbury, MA 01776.
