Ned Andrew Myers, Sr.—known to friends and family alike as “Ned the Fed” and lovingly as “Popo”—passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, into the arms of our Heavenly Father on October 13, 2025, at the age of 98.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, on July 13, 1927, the only child of Chet (Chester Andrew) and Helen (Gephardt) Myers, Ned lived a life rich in service, laughter, and love. He attended Kentucky Military Institute and during his undergraduate years, proudly served his country in both World War II and the Korean War. During and after his military service, Ned pursued his education with determination and curiosity, attending Ohio Wesleyan University and Ohio State University, and later earning his Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso University School of Law. During his last year of law school, he met the love of his life, Barbara “Babo” Shuga Myers and married her within a few months; perhaps the best decision of his life! Most of their marriage was based in Macon, GA where they raised their four children, (per Ned, ‘3 hits and a miss’ -3 girls and one boy), with boundless love and devotion.

Upon graduating from law school, his sharp intellect and sense of duty led him to a distinguished career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation beginning in 1956, with the Miami office. Within a few years, he was trained and transferred as a Special Agent to the Macon office from 1960 until his retirement in 1982.

After closing his FBI chapter, Ned and Barbara turned their energy toward a new adventure—opening Shows To Go, the first video rental store in Macon, Georgia. The business quickly became a community favorite, expanding to multiple locations and creating a space where families and movie lovers gathered long before streaming was imagined.

Ned and Barbara shared 69½ years of marriage, a partnership filled with laughter and endless adventure. For years, they loaded up their car with their kids and gear to spend weeks each summer camping across the United States, visiting national parks and landmarks from coast to coast. Those trips—filled with campfires, singing, and miles of open road—became treasured family memories that shaped their children’s love of travel, nature, and togetherness. As a couple, they explored the world by plane, boat, and train, always meeting new people and immersing themselves in new cultures.

Ned’s spirit of adventure extended beyond his family. For more than twenty years, hundreds of Girl Scouts came to know him as an honorary volunteer and master of mischief on countless camping trips. He logged thousands of miles and hours in tents, cabins, canoes, and on hiking trails, sharing his humor, patience, and unending stories with all.

Never one to stop learning, at the age of 73, Ned joined Mercer University School of Medicine’s Standardized Patient Program, where he played “the patient” for medical students during clinical training exercises. He took great pride in watching bright young minds hone their clinical skills—and even greater delight in occasionally startling them with how convincingly he performed his mock “psych evaluations” and how he could manipulate his carotid artery to simulate a serious heart condition… he got in trouble for that one!

Ned and Barbara remained devoted members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Macon for 65 years, where Ned also helped to found Trinity Woods Christian Day Camp, a lasting ministry that continues to nurture faith, fun, and friendship for generations of children.

Ned’s love of life was as boundless as his humor. He and Barbara were avid Bridge players, delighted in dinners, travels, and parties with friends, and were always up for an adventure. At the ripe young age of 80, he decided to celebrate with his first (and only) skydiving jump with one of his son is laws and a grandson. And he loved it! He was a consummate storyteller and a master of the practical joke—his “target audience” rarely saw it coming but always laughed hardest in the end. Popo never forgot a name or a face, and his quick wit left a mark on everyone who knew him. He embodied loyalty, curiosity, generosity, and the joy of shared laughter.

He is survived by Barbara, his devoted wife of nearly seven decades; his four children and their spouses—Jill Myers (Michael Knight), Jeanne Haslam (Pres), Jan Ray (Don), and Andy Myers (Susie); his beloved eleven grandchildren; and four beautiful great-granddaughters who were all adored by their Popo.

A celebration of Ned’s life will be held at a later date. The family invites all who knew him to honor Popo’s memory by sharing a story, a hearty laugh, or a harmless practical joke—just as he would have wanted.
