September 4, 1936 – October 16, 2025
Neva was born in Thermalito, California to Ron and Annie Neilsen. Economic times were tough back then and the family moved around the Central Valley and the Bay Area before settling in Napa. In the un-settled times, her mother and father divorced and her father married and started a second family. Neva became the primary care giver for her younger three sisters.
While on a camping trip in Yosemite Neva became the object of a young mans attention. A long-distance pursuit began since Gene lived in the Los Angeles area. They married in December 1953. They have made their home in Los Molinos since 1968. Gene passed in January 2021. They ‘survived’ 67 years of marriage!
Dennis, Donna, Jim, Janet and Susan!! That was the sequence of ‘elevated’ words when we were frustrating Mom!! You knew at least one of the names in that brood was wearing her down! As a young woman she wanted to foster children but, apparently, five were enough! With Mom we were always well loved, well fed and well clothed.
Summer vacations were usually to Yosemite or that area. As the children left the nest Mom & Dad were able to take multiple trips to Europe and Australia and a side trip or two to Hawaii.
Neva enjoyed playing the piano, painting and gardening. All of the children have been blessed with oil paintings that were specific to their interests and passions.
After Gene passed the family realized Alzheimers had creeped into her and our lives. We were blessed that she stayed the same calm, beautiful spirit she had always been. Neva’s final years were spent at her home with loving family surrounding and caring for her as she had cared for us.
Surviving Neva are three daughters, Donna Holliday of Chico CA, Janet (Mike) Haas of Red Bluff CA and Susan (Sly) Vansickle of Los Molinos CA. Two sons, Dennis (Cheryl) Holliday of Denver CO and Jim Holliday of Chico CA; Also surviving are two sisters, Leola (Bob) Porter and Pat (Hal) Phillips both of Napa. Neva had 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Interment was in the Los Molinos Cemetery.
