Nicholas Brook Sower, 66, of Carmichael CA, passed away peacefully at his home on October 5, 2025. He was a cherished husband, father, and friend, and the joy he brought to others will be sorely missed.
Nick was born on September 22, 1959, in Boise, Idaho, to Samuel and Jane Sower. He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1978, completed the Paramedic Program at Oregon Health and Science University in 1982, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from U.C. Davis in 1994. Nick's 37-year career was framed by service as a first responder. In 1982 he began at Medic one in Reno, NV. He continued working as an EMT, EMT2, Paramedic, in the Sacramento area until 1998. He spent the last twenty years of his career as a Firefighter Paramedic with the Sacramento City Fire Department 1999-2019. Nick treasured time spent with his family and leaves a legacy of stories that will be retold for many years. He played brass instruments for Christ Community Church (where he volunteered for over 20 years), Joyous Brass, the Sacramento City College band, and Sacramento Symphonic Winds. He was an avid photographer, motorcycle enthusiast and Ham radio operator. Nick never shied away from fixing, tinkering or tearing something apart to put a "whammy job" on it, a skill he loved to share with his children in great detail. He also enjoyed a long line of family cats and dogs. His quick wit and indefatigable sense of humor brought many smiles and much laughter to all who knew him.
Nick is survived by his wife of 37 years, Elizabeth Sower; his son, Stuart and partner Marshely Martinez of Sacramento CA; his daughter, Sarah and fiancé Alfred Martinez of Oceanside CA; his sister Carrie Sower; sister-in-law Joanna Noble; brothers-in-law Dave Noble and Tim Noble; uncle and aunt Fred and Jan Sower; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to count.
A celebration of Nick's life will be held on November 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Community Church, 5025 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael CA. The family invites all who knew Nick to attend.
