Nina Fay Borton, 100, of Bozeman, Montana, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Saco, Montana on March 15, 1925, Nina grew up on a windswept prairie farm where life was simple but full of adventure. She loved to tell stories of her childhood - walking to a one-room schoolhouse, tending to chores, and ice-skating on frozen ponds in the bitter cold. Those early years shaped her strength, optimism, and sense of wonder that stayed with her for a lifetime.
When her family later moved to Arlington, Virginia, Nina attended Washington and Lee High School, where she became Captain of The Cadet Corps and met her high school sweetheart, Harry Thomas Brodie. They married after graduating from high school. During World War II, she worked for the War Department while Harry served aboard the USS Chatelain, the ship that captured the German Submarine U-505.
Nina and Harry raised four children - Glenn, Donna, David and Albert - and she poured her heart into motherhood. Whether she was leading Scout troops, volunteering at church, or organizing community projects, Nina’s energy seemed endless. She had a gift for making everyone around her feel valued and cared for.
Her faith guided her every step. Nina sang in the Methodist Church Choir, served as a Stephen Minister, and found joy in helping others through life’s challenges. She also had a long and varied career - working as a cost analyst for Hazelton Labs and Water Bonnett, a caseworker for Seniors First, and as the office manager for her son-in-law’s dental practice. Even after retirement, she continued to give back, volunteering at a local thrift store that supported women in crisis.
Nina was a charter member and past President of the American Business Women’s Association, where she mentored other women in the business community. After raising a family, Nina was proud to graduate from Rollins College.
Family was always at the center of her world. She delighted in watching her family grow, taking pride in her grandchildren - Christopher, Marci, Damon, Aaron, Noah, Stephanie, Danielle, Kaleigh, and Tyler - her eleven great-grandchildren and her three nieces- each of whom brought her endless joy.
Nina will be remembered for her generous heart, her optimism, and her unwavering belief that life is best served in service to others. She lived through a century of change but never lost her zest for life or her gratitude. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to live on - in her family, in her community, and in the countless lives she touched with grace and compassion,
