Norman "Aransas" Spells, 80, passed away on October 1st, 2025 at home in Norman, Oklahoma, surrounded by his family.

Norman was born July 29, 1945 in Tallulah, Louisiana to Henry Clayton and Martha Spells. In 1950, he moved with his parents and brother Dean to Aransas Pass, Texas. He formed many life long lasting relationships with the Marshall's and his Crenshaw women, as well as many others.

In the late 60's after college at University of North Texas, he joined his dad in the dredge boat industry. He decided to trade his sea legs for two wheels and got his first Harley Davidson. Shortly after, he became part of a notorious brotherhood of leather and chrome. He was a Nomad on the open road, traveling from coast to coast with his brothers on two wheels. In his words, it was the first time he truly felt accepted and welcomed into his new second family.

In 1980 he started his own family with Michelle Drake and had three daughters, Amanda, Ashley and Allyson. Those years were spent in Columbia, New Mexico, Oklahoma and settling in Ingleside, TX. In 1984 he got his acting debut in the movie Alamo Bay with Ed Harris and Amy Madigan.

In the late 80's he moved to Port Aransas with his wife Patricia, Pat, and ran the Coast Club. His Island days were some of his fondest memories. His rally events hosted at the bar were often covered in magazines like Texas Iron and Texas Monthly

In 1997, Norman surrendered his past to recovery at Charlie's Place Rehabilitation Center. This was the start of his over 20 years in Corpus Christi. He was so dedicated to his path that he went back to college and became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. His decades at Charlie's ranged from kitchen staff, to Substance Abuse Tech, to Counselor and then to Clinical Director, working alongside Debbie, Walter, Larry and so many others. He was able to save thousands of lives of those who walked through those doors telling them all to "abandon all hope of a better past". In 2013, after a scary battle of end term liver cancer, he was blessed with a life saving liver transplant. During this time, his cousin Phyllis, aka "Sarge" took him and his family in and nursed him back to health. He spent many loving and happy years with his partner, Margo and his final years in South Texas with his brother Jimi living out the sitcom, The Odd Couple.

In 2021, he retired for the 3rd and final time and moved to Oklahoma to live with his beloved Tri-Glide "Pops-cycle", his Oklahoma Sooners, his daughter and his grandchildren. His retirement was filled with motorcycle road trips with Colin, trips with his family, late nights and sleeping in, cherished visits with Tractor, Jamie and Shawn, and spending his time with his grandbabies Zoeoe, Squirty Bird, Augie Doggie and Gramcracker. In 2022, he and his good friend John Lymon completed his first published book, "Behind Bars, the Life of a Bandit" and fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming an author. In late 2023, he got to go on "his dream bucket trip" to North Pole, Alaska to see the Northern Lights with mother in law Vickie, Ashley, Jeremy and Asayla. He said next to watching his children and grandchildren being born, it was the most magical thing he had ever seen. After his health started fading, it became harder for him to travel. His last trip was to surprise his good friend Bob and the opening of his new Rehabilitation Center. He somehow knew it would be his last trip to Texas and was so happy to get to see his good friends. Once he entered into hospice, his friends brought Texas to him and gave him the surprise of his life to celebrate his birthday. His family will be forever grateful for the love he was shown for his day. It meant everything to him and showed him people truly cared.

Norman was welcomed into heaven by his daughters Amanda and Allyson, his bonus son Cory, his brothers Dean, Jamie and Jimi, his parents, his wives Michelle, Margo and Pat, his loving Sponsor Steve, his fur baby Sox and so many other dear friends and family members.

He is survived by his daughter Ashley, his grandchildren Avery, Zoe (Travis), Asayla, Ryley and August, his great-gramcracker Akira, his niece Deena Davis (David), his bonus sons Paul, Adam and Jeremy, his bonus grandkids, his longtime love Tamara, Kitty Kat, his "Pop's girl" fur baby Olive, his Bayrats, his Brotherhood in Leather, his Island Misfits, his NA recovery friends and family and countless loved ones and admirers whom will all miss him dearly.

Services will be held Saturday, November 8th from 5pm-7pm at Port Royal Ocean Resort Event Center in Port Aransas TX.
