Patricia Sherwood

1953 - 2025

Patricia Lee "Pat" Sherwood (née Karr), age 72, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, in Clovis, New Mexico. Born on May 20, 1953, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Pat lived a life rooted in dedication to family, education, and faith.

Pat's journey in education began early when she earned her GED at the age of 17. Her pursuit of knowledge continued with an associate degree from Clovis Community College, followed by a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Eastern New Mexico University. She later achieved a Master's degree in Education Technology from Lesley University—becoming the first and only child of her parents to earn a master's degree.

While raising her children, Pat worked various jobs to support her family. However, it was in the classroom where she found her true calling. Her teaching career began as a middle school art teacher for the Tucumcari Public School District. She later taught fifth grade before settling into her beloved role as a third- and fourth-grade teacher—a position she held for most of her career. Known affectionately by generations of students as "Mrs. Sherwood," Pat retired in 2018 but never stopped cherishing the memories and connections she made with her students.

Pat was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She found joy serving in the Primary program and treasured opportunities to attend the temple when possible. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life and service.

She is survived by her two children: Lesa (Emerson) Salvador and Bobby Sherwood; five grandchildren: Nemie (Jamie) Salvador, Emerson Jr. (Rose) Salvador, Kheldon (Annie) Sherwood, Khobie Salvador, and Aleeja Salvador; and seven great-grandchildren: Baylee, Joyce, and Damien Jones-Salvador; Prince and Sandro Salvador; Leona and Lorelei Sherwood.

Pat is also survived by five of her eight siblings: Joe Karr; Jim (Dee) Karr; Wayne (Carolyn) Karr; Mike (Janet) Karr; and sister Marie Mote; along with numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Sherwood; parents Ora Lee and M.B. Karr; sisters Cherry Williams and Penny O'Toole; and her precious great-grandson Lucian Sherwood.

Throughout her life, Pat remained steadfast in her love for teaching and family. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched—both inside the classroom and beyond.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 10, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 2400 S 9th St. Burial will follow at Tucumcari Cemetery.
