Obituary for Patrick Charles Drew Thompson
Patrick “Charles” Drew Thompson, born in Victoria, Mississippi in 1932, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the age of 92 in Memphis, Tennessee. Charles was the beloved son of Alfonso “Buster” and Maggie Belle “Julie” Thompson.
Charles graduated from Byhalia High School in Mississippi, where he developed a love for learning that continued throughout his life. He served with honor in Korea, the 8th US Army, 40th Infantry Division, contributing to his nation with dedication and pride.
An avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Memphis Grizzlies and Memphis Tigers, Charles found joy in watching games and sharing that passion with friends and family. His enthusiasm for collecting baseball hats from around the world and John Deere memorabilia filled his home with memories and stories. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time at Gibson’s Donuts, enjoying good company and coffee. In addition, Charles was an enthusiastic photographer and enjoyed both family and nature photos.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Tawanda Thompson; his sisters, Annie Mae Carter and Lurline Emrich; his loving children, Mark Thompson and his spouse Holly, Brian Thompson and his spouse Lucie; and grandchildren Beth Thompson Lara, Gabriel Thompson, Austin Graeter, Cameron Graeter, Louis Thompson, Stuart Thompson and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Drew Thompson, and grandson, Patrick Thompson.
Visitation will be Friday, November 7th at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave, Memphis TN 38122 beginning at 12 noon, with the funeral service following at 1 pm. Burial will be at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Heifer International.
Charles will be remembered for his kindness, his colorful collections, his steadfast devotion to family, and the lasting friendships he cultivated across generations.
