Patrick Joseph Walsh, 22, of Banks, Oregon and Rickreall, Oregon, died suddenly Tuesday, October 21, 2025 after several days of improving condition during an ICU stay. Patrick was born the youngest son of Thomas E. and Diane M. Walsh and the youngest grandson of Reino and Betty (Shore) Hockert and Edward and Mary (Trumbull) Walsh on September 2, 2003. He was the delight of his many siblings and early exhibited the quick humour and radiant smile for which he has become famous. In childhood, Patrick was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Glycerol Kinase Deficiency. At the age of 11, Patrick began horse riding lessons, continuing to ride weekly until the time of his passing, totaling eleven years as an equestrian; he showed in many horse shows at BEAT Riding Center in Banks, Oregon throughout the years and acquired an impressive array of ribbons. He absolutely loved riding and spending time with his friends at the barn. Patrick became a power wheelchair user in 2017, learning to navigate challenges the rest of us would hesitate to face, with a resilience and joy that was an honor to witness. Patrick’s early delight in his toy car collection matured into an avid love for classic cars and increasingly vast knowledge of the functioning and repair of cars and trucks. His 2024 Make-A-Wish experience included flying (first time in an airplane!) to Nashville, Tennessee, taking in the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Grand Ole Opry, and not one but two trips to the Lane Motor Museum. He loved country music, adventuring with his siblings and friends, planning projects, connecting via video call with his non-local siblings and their children, and playing games, beating all at Blokus and Qwirkle Cubes. He loved attending and acting as groomsman in each of his married siblings’ weddings. Patrick was honored to become godfather to his nephew Henry and delighted in the responsibilities and joys of the role. His sense of humour, his comedic timing, his beaming smile, and his glorious beard were the envy of all. He leaves behind many loving and heartbroken relatives and friends reeling from the shock of our devastating loss.

He was preceded in death in 2022 by his loving mother, Diane Mae (Hockert) Walsh. He is survived by his father, Thomas; sisters Theresa, Angela, Rose Walsh, and Brigid (Scott) Sinclair; and brothers Andrew (Audrey), Nicholas (Brigid), and Liam (Isabella) Walsh; his nieces and nephews Edward and Catherine Walsh, Robert and George Walsh, Irene and Liam Walsh, and Henry Sinclair; seventeen first cousins; and his aunts and uncles.

On November 6, 2025, at Holy Rosary Church in Portland, Oregon, the Rite of Reception of the Body will take place at 5pm, followed by a viewing, with Rosary and Vespers for the Dead beginning at 6:30pm. The Requiem Mass (Funeral) will take place on November 7, 2025 beginning at 9:30am at Holy Rosary. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Banks, Oregon. Arrangements are in the care of Gethsemani Funeral Home, Happy Valley, Oregon.
