Paul Peter Morreale, 92
With his family at his side, Paul Morreale passed from this life on October 17, 2016.
He was born Paul Peter Morreale to Michael and Grace Morreale on August 9, 1924 in Reed, Pennsylvania. In his early years, Paul moved with his family from Pennsylvania to Detroit, Michigan. While growing up in Detroit, he attended Cass Technical High School where he was inspired to study Psychology. At age 18, Paul was drafted and served in the 3rd Armored Division of the U.S. Army in WWII. He fought bravely in many battles including the landing of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, Paul attended Hillsdale College and graduated with a degree in Psychology and Education. He received his master's degree from Wayne State University in Administration.
During his senior year at Hillsdale, Paul traveled abroad where he met and later married Letizia Zafutto in Palermo, Sicily. They moved to Detroit and he began his teaching career and raised 3 children with Leta. He really understood the value of education, and he inspired his children to attend college. Paul served as a school psychologist and as a Director of Special Education respectively in Fraser Public Schools. He later returned to the classroom as a teacher at Walt Disney Elementary.
Paul's family will forever remember a father and grandfather who was loving, gracious, encouraging and supportive. He was so deeply loved and will be truly missed. Paul imparted a love for life-long learning through his example, and he sought to invoke fun activities for his family to enjoy daily living.
In addition to Leta, Paul is survived by Grace (Carl) Morreale Hawkins of Petoskey, Jeanne Morreale of Warren, and Michael (Melissa) Morreale of Bradenton, Florida; Grandchildren include Marie Winnick, Laura and Philip Hawkins, Elijah Meredith, Michael, Isabella, Giavanna, and Vincent Morreale. He was also survived by his brother Michael Morreale and his sister Jeanne Baird. He was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Rand and Grace Morreale.
Paul's funeral service was held October 22 of 2016 at United Methodist Church. Paul's interment was in the veterans section of Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton-Charter Township.
