Obituary for Paul William Shafer

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and servant of Christ.

Paul William Shafer, 93, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Born on April 21, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Paul lived a long and fulfilling life marked by faith, service, and devotion to his family.

He graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in business and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy. Following his military service, Paul earned a master's degree from Rollins College in Orlando, Florida, and pursued a successful career in business finance until his retirement.

Paul married the love of his life, Janet Anne Dill of Norco, Louisiana, with whom he shared a lifelong bond of faith, love, and commitment. Together they raised three children: Lisa Helen Boltze, Paul Gregory Shafer, and Scott David Shafer. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janet, who passed away on September 26, 2023.

A devout Catholic, Paul's life was deeply rooted in his love for Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. His faith was the guiding principle of his life and sustained him through all seasons. He was a dedicated parishioner of Epiphany of Our Lord Shrine in Tampa, Florida, where he regularly participated in the life of the Church.

Paul spent his later years in the Clearwater, Florida area, where he devoted himself to family and prayer. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, humility, and steadfast devotion — to his faith, his family, and his country.

He is survived by his three children, as well as his beloved grandchildren — Madison Fitzpatrick and Matthew, Nicole, Nathan, and Kathryn Shafer, Lauren Womack, and Joelle Purcell — and great-grandchildren — Luci Womack and Oliver, Graham, Finn, and Elliott Purcell — all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and faith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Epiphany of Our Lord Shrine, Tampa, Florida. Interment with U.S. Navy military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Epiphany of Our Lord Shrine or to a charity of choice in Paul's memory.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
