Peter John Dondero of La Quinta, California passed away peacefully at home with this wife holding his hand on October 12th at the age of 83. Born in New York to the late Margaret and John Dondero, Peter graduated from New York Military Academy and attended Wagner
College before honorably serving in the US Army. He joined the New York City Fire Department where he was assigned and worked for 20 years in Harlem and Brooklyn. After commuting between New York City and Manhattan Beach, California for the last five years of his service in FDNY, Peter retired to join his wife, Linda, who had previously moved to California. They ultimately moved to La Quinta seven years ago to enjoy the beauty and peace of the desert.
Peter loved the beach, walking his dogs, tent and Air-Stream camping, the mountains, especially Mammoth, fishing with his friends, sports, especially horse racing, traveling, entertaining, and was a fantastic chef for his family and friends.
Peter is survived and loved by his wife, Linda, his daughter, Michele Gilbert (Mark), stepdaughter, Jennifer Clausen-Bridges, grandchildren, Sascha and Lola Gilbert and Parker Bridges. He is also survived by his brother, John Dondero (Cindy), nephews and niece. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) and Robert Miniter.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
