Phyllis Mae Clark, 88, of Denver, CO, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025. A vibrant and adventurous spirit, Phyllis will always be remembered for her love of life, her sense of curiosity, and her extraordinary talent for painting.

Born on February 26, 1937, in Denver, Colorado, Phyllis grew up as one of three daughters of Theodore and Frieda Clark, and the sister of Helen and Patricia. When Theodore remarried in 1945, Ruth Schacht became her stepmother.

She earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Eastern New Mexico University in 1962 and a master's in social work from the University of Denver in 1968.

Phyllis devoted her 37-year career to the Brighton School District, where she served as a compassionate school counselor, supporting youth and families. She built lifelong friendships and touched countless lives through her care, guidance, and belief in the potential of every student.

A born artist and performer, Phyllis expressed her vibrant spirit through theater and paintbrush alike. In the late 1950s, she brought characters to life at Buckskin Joe Theme Park near Canon City, CO, and later on the stages of local community theaters — who can forget her red hair? Her artistry found its fullest expression in her paintings — vibrant landscapes, intricate geometric designs, and her most celebrated series inspired by the adobe architecture of Taos, New Mexico. Her paintings, along with the book of poetry she wrote, continue to share her vision and creativity with the world.

Phyllis is survived by her nieces and nephews, Erik Bergman, Yvonne Reeves, Donalee Shear, Phyllis Scott-Slominski, Sara Chouinard, Charles Scott, and many members of her extended family who will carry forward her stories, laughter, and love.
