Richard "Dick" Monaghan of Crossville, TN, passed away peacefully on September 27 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 82.

Born to Francis and Ellen (Cole) Monaghan on June 30, 1943, Richard grew up in Ferndale with his brothers Frank, Ed and Tom and his sister, Colleen (Monaghan) Barton. When asked about his childhood, some of his favorite memories were spending time on his grandparent's farm in in Yale and the trouble you can only cause with your siblings.

Richard served as a Marine in the Vietnam War and was awarded two Purple Hearts for his service. Following his service, he worked as an iron worker for the Local 25 in Michigan. When not at work, you could find him enjoying his horses and listening to country music. He was also an accomplished golfer, a status gained by playing many rounds of golf, and this practice led him to becoming a proud Hole-in-One member of the Druid Hills Golf Club.

Richard was a great longtime companion of the late Carol Chase, a loyal brother to his siblings who preceded him in death and a devoted stepfather to Kristin Chase, Tricia Alexander, and the late John Chase.

He was the much-loved Uncle Dick to his many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews that remember him for his uncanny ability to bring a laugh to any situation, his quick-witted words, and his knack for finding the nearest recliner after a family meal. Most of all, we will remember and miss the fierce devotion he had to his family - marked by his annual summer road trip to Michigan for a visit or the short and sweet phone calls.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan where he will be laid to rest.
