Rita McCarthy Foster 99, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025. Born in Berlin, Germany, she was married to the love of her life, Frank McCarthy until his passing in 1997. She later made her home in Fort Myers, Florida after many years in Virginia.
Rita dedicated her life to her family and to helping others. She worked for the Fairfax County School system in Virginia as a secretary before retiring, and she embraced her role as a homemaker with love and pride. Her family remained her greatest joy and most cherished accomplishment.
Known for her kindness, generosity, and remarkable ability to connect with others, Rita was a gifted writer who loved sharing the story of her extraordinary life with friends and loved ones. She loved traveling, embracing new experiences and was an enthusiastic golfer earning not just one, but two holes in-one during her life time. Rita remarried and spent many happy years with her husband Walter Foster before his passing.
Rita is survived by her three children: Kevin McCarthy (Sandy), Karin McCarthy Broersma, and John McCarthy (Linda). Step daughters: Sally Erickson, Kelli Foster, Marguerite Foster. Her grandchildren: Casie McCarthy Zayouna (Zaid), Kevin McCarthy (Tiffany,) Brendan McCarthy (Sarah), and Meghan McCarthy (Alexx). Her step grandchildren: Michael Bell, Christie Bell and Emily Augustine. Great grandchildren: Kiera, Fiona, Rudi, Tua. Lila and Liam
Rita will be in interred in Arlington National Cemetery with Frank McCarthy later next year.
