Robert "Bob" Kent Shurts
October 23, 1949 - November 2, 2025
Dear Family, Friends, and All Who Loved Him,
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Robert "Bob" Kent Shurts, who died peacefully at home in Stuart, Florida, on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the age of 76. Bob recently celebrated one last joyful trip around the sun surrounded by love.
Please share your messages, memories and photos here on this Legacy site in his honor so that all can share in the collective celebration of a life well lived.
Those who knew him will remember that he was the life of every gathering. Known affectionately as "DJ Bob", he filled his retirement years in Florida with music, laughter, and friendship — performing with local improv groups, leading his Zumba family on and off the dance floor, and volunteering countless hours at the Road to Victory Military Museum. He was an active member of the Korean War Veterans Association, the Veterans Council, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Bob loved trivia, dancing, and doting on his "spicy" cat, Elton John. He could fill a dance floor anywhere — and his rhythm for life never missed a beat.
Born in Loveland, Ohio, on October 23, 1949, Bob was destined to make life a little brighter, louder, and funnier for everyone lucky enough to know him.
A gifted musician from a young age, Bob excelled as a trumpeter in the marching band at Loveland High School (Class of 1967). Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably in reconnaissance, photography, and radio broadcast operations. After his service, he began a lifelong career with Voice of America, ultimately retiring in 2004 as a Broadcast Engineer Supervisor after 24 years of dedicated service.
Bob and his beloved wife, Georgia, later settled along Florida's Treasure Coast to begin their next chapter together, where he spent countless hours enjoying his many passions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth "Ken" Nelson Shurts and Edna "Betty" Josephine Bryant.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Georgia; his sisters Pamela Allen and Mary Pritchard; his daughters Tammy, Lana, and Christine; his son Alex; their spouses and partners, who he loved as his own; and his cherished grandchildren Devon, Olivia, Wesley, Grace, Cecilia, and Archer. He also leaves behind a large extended family and countless friends who made his life full.
