Robert Sweeney 1938 - 2025
Robert H Sweeney, eighty-seven of Merritt Island, Florida died in hospice at Cape Canaveral Hospital on September 18, 2025.
He was born in Queens, New York in 1938 to Clarence and Francesca Sweeney. Robert was the oldest of their nine children. He lived on Long Island where he worked as an operating engineer building golf courses during Long Island's 1960's-70's golf boom with his father in-law, golf course architect and builder Charles K. Martin.
Robert moved to South Florida in 1973 and continued his work as an operating engineer building roads and many other construction projects throughout his career. During his retirement, Robert enjoyed landscaping and yardwork, walking, staying active and enjoying life.
Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his large family and friends. He looked forward to the frequent visits to see his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, in-laws and each new generation that followed.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gerry Sweeney. He is survived by his wife Lorraine Sweeney, daughters Cindy Pucci, Tracy Feldman, Heather Sweeney, granddaughters Devon Butler and Reighin Sweeney, great grandsons Julian Butler and Simon Butler, brothers Charles Sweeney, Tom Sweeney, Richie Sweeney and sisters Arlene Wilkinson, Sharon Hughes, Maureen Anderson and Pat Fannon.
A celebration of life was held October 12, 2025, in Cocoa Beach, FL.
