Another light has left this world and will not be forgotten.
Born September 10, 1945, Robert "Bob" Thixton, 78, passed away peacefully in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Thursday August 8, 2024, from Squamous cell cancer, which he valiantly fought for two years. He faced his battle with grace, dignity and a stamina and hope that was amazingly positive during that time. Bob was always a kind and loving soul and had a deep compassion for all of humanity. He had a great sense of humor, and a quick wit. He was a true gentleman, handsome, and charming, a connoisseur who loved to cook and entertain friends. Generous to many people in times of need, and loved stimulating conversations, animals, the arts, music and was a great dancer. He served our country during the Vietnam War in the Navy, and was stationed on Midway Island in the Pacific before finishing his naval career in Key West in the 1970's. It was in Key West that he made many lifelong friends, and in 1971 met the one man that became the most important person in his life, Dick Duane. Together they formed a partnership which lasted 50 years until Dick's death in 2021, and during those years entertained many celebrities at their home in Key West, and in New York. They were famous for their New Year's Eve parties in Key West, as well as the sit down Thanksgiving dinners for 40 guests that Bob himself prepared. They created Pinder Lane Productions in the 1970's that quickly grew into a successful award winning music and film production company in New York City. In 1985 the company expanded and became the celebrity talent booking agency for BBDO New York, and BBDO Worldwide and its affiliates, as well as other major ad agencies throughout the world; signing film stars, performing artists, and athletes to endorse and appear in numerous commercials, and in effect created Branding. They also became successful literary agents in forming Pinder Lane & Garon-Brooke Literary Agency, which represents major literary clients. After Dick's passing, Bob continued to operate both agencies on his own. Bob was preceded in death by his husband Dick Duane, his parents Helen and William, and his brother Ronald. He is survived by his sisters, Mary E. Thixton, who continues to operate the companies; Christina T. Knight; and brother William F. Thixton Jr. (wife Cathy); various nieces, and nephews, and many close friends who loved him dearly, including Evangeline "Vangie" Washington who was a part of their life, took care of them both and their home in Key West for 30 years.
