Roderic Marc Shirk, affectionately known as "El Gato," passed away on October 22, 2025, in Punta Gorda, Florida, at the age of 75. Born on November 25, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, Rod lived a life marked by resilience, devotion, and an enduring zest for both family and fun.

Rod pursued his education with determination and excellence. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio. His academic journey continued at The University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio, where he obtained his Master of Business Administration. These accomplishments laid the foundation for a successful professional life shaped by hard work and principled leadership.

Throughout his life, Rod was known for his athleticism and competitive spirit. A lifelong enthusiast of soccer, he brought energy and passion to the field that matched his vibrant personality. Later in life, he discovered a love for pickleball—a sport that combined his agility with his playful nature. Whether on the court or tackling a new DIY project at home, Rod approached every endeavor with enthusiasm and skill.

Rod's strength was not only physical but deeply personal. He faced cancer twice and triumphed both times with courage and resilience that inspired those around him. His mischievous sense of humor and kind heart remained undiminished through every challenge.

Above all else, Rod was devoted to his family. He took immense pride in the lives and accomplishments of his daughters Alison Pippin of Eden, Utah, and Tiffany Hayden of Clifton, Virginia; son-in-law Timothy Hayden; and grandchildren Jack, Wyatt, Robert, River, Lucy, and Edith. His sister Cyndy (Petteys) Schwartz held a special place in his heart as well—along with her sons and their families—and he cherished time spent with his niece and nephews. Rod was preceded in death by both parents, and his younger brother, Daryl.

Rod’s legacy is one of love fiercely given and joy generously shared. He was passionate about life’s simple pleasures: cheering on loved ones’ successes, sharing laughter over stories old and new, or lending a helping hand with quiet strength. Those who knew him will remember a man who was caring yet strong-willed; principled yet playful; hardworking yet always ready to enjoy the moment.

Rod’s spirit will live on through the memories held dear by friends and family alike. May those memories bring comfort as they reflect on a life so fully lived.
