Ronald Dean Walters

Ronald Dean Walters, 66, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on October 6, 2025, after a short yet courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Vicky, his daughter Kristen, his son Mike and daughter-in-law Tara, and two beloved grandchildren, a brother Bill Walters and his wife Rayetta of Monroeville, PA, a sister Marsha Hartrick, of New Philadelphia, OH, a sister-in-law Patricia Walters of York,PA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great and great great nieces and nephews.

Ron started his firefighting career as a volunteer at Adams Township Volunteer Fire Company 2 in St. Michael’s, PA as a teenager. Upon moving to Maryland, he continued volunteering with Reisterstown, Union Bridge, Pleasant Valley, and New Windsor volunteer fire companies. Ron joined the Baltimore County Fire Department in 1982 and proudly served for 32 years. He truly loved his work and dedicated much of his career to teaching and mentoring other firefighters, both on the job and at the Baltimore County Fire Rescue Academy, as well as helping to train junior volunteer firefighters.

Known for his generous heart, Ron found joy in giving back to others, whether by installing car seats for families, fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or volunteering at various MDA summer camps. He also volunteered his time to stand Honor Guard for several New York City Fire Fighters after 9/11 and to do Hurricane Katrina recovery.

Ron was an involved father, coaching his children’s various youth sports and leading a Cub Scout pack for his son. He was well known by family and friends for his sense of humor, jokes, and quick sarcasm. Ron gave the absolute best hugs and brought smiles to the faces of all who knew him. In his retirement, Ron treasured time with his family and especially loved being “Pap” to his grandchildren who brought him endless happiness.
