For sixty remarkable years, Roy served the Frayser TN, community as a barber. His barbershop was far more than a place for haircuts—it was a place where lifelong friendships were formed and Roy's stories flowed as freely as conversation. Generations of clients returned not only for his skill but for the warmth and familiarity he brought to every visit.
Beyond his professional life, Roy found great joy in nature. As a young man, he spent hours fishing and developed a lifelong passion for hunting the Loosahatchie River bottoms near his home. A skilled marksman and passionate horseman, he taught himself to train and show horses and even one brahma bull — earning him admiration from all who had the pleasure of watching him train and ride.
Roy is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Sharon Shirley; daughter Gina Philips; son Roy Shirley Jr.; grandchildren Katie Lawson, Wade Shirley, and Keely Shirley, four great-grandchildren, and sisters Margaret Shearer and Charlotte Shearer. Each held a special place in his heart and brought him immense pride throughout his life.
Roy's legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering service to his community, and heartfelt connection with those around him. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
