Sandra Ruth Bolotsky, known to everyone as Sandy, passed away peacefully at the Sussman House Hospice in Rockland, Maine on March 19, 2025. Born in Lakewood, New Jersey on March 27, 1948, she passed 8 days shy of her 77th birthday.
Sandy was a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend; a loving human to countless animals over the years; and the possessor of one of the greenest of green thumbs anyone has ever seen. She was a bit of a wanderer, but with a particular affinity for the stark beauty of the New Mexico landscape and also the rocky coastline of northern New England.
Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Meyer Bolotsky, her mother, Sonia Bolotsky, and her older sister Ann (Bolotsky) Stauber. She is survived by her loving brother Mike Bolotsky (Judy Kiesel), her beloved nephews Dan Bolotsky and Adam Bolotsky, her loving niece, Lauren Stauber-Henderson (Asa Henderson), and her beloved grandnephew Athil Henderson.
Sandy did things on her own schedule. She began her undergraduate studies at 18 and completed them about 25 years later. She obtained two master's degrees several years after that. Sandy spent many years teaching mathematics in high schools and at community colleges, and she most recently served as an independent consultant to water utilities in Maine and elsewhere in Northern New England.
Sandy was most at peace in Nature. The following excerpt from a Navajo prayer captures her essence in life and in death:
"The mountains, I become part of it . . .
The herbs, the fir tree, I become part of it.
The morning mists, the clouds, the gathering waters,
I become part of it.
The wilderness, the dew drops, the pollen . . .
I become part of it."
Should you wish to make a contribution in Sandy's name, consider making it to your local animal shelter or to your favorite charity for the benefit of animals.
