Sandra "Sandy" Dodgens (Gillespie), 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 8, 2025, at Aultman Hospital, Canton Ohio following a brief illness.

Born on March 18, 1952, in Easley, South Carolina, Sandy was the daughter of the late George and Arie Gillespie. She graduated from Easley High School in the Class of 1970 and carried the values of her upbringing—kindness, compassion, and faith—throughout her life.

Sandy built a fulfilling career, retiring from Volvo Construction Equipment in Arden, North Carolina. She also worked many years for Tuten Penland Auction in Asheville, North Carolina. Her warm personality and dedication left a lasting impression on colleagues, clients and customers alike.

A woman of deep faith, Sandy was devoted to her spiritual life. She was an active member of multiple Bible study groups and volunteered her time to share the word of God in various settings, including local food banks, Central Presbyterian's Door Ministry, and through her everyday interactions. Her home was often filled with laughter and love during Bible study and game nights, especially when she shared them with her daughter and grandchildren.

Family was the heart of Sandy's world. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kendall Philabaum, and son-in-law, Michael; her cherished grandchildren, Noah and Sydney, who were the light of her life; and her nieces, Cindy King, Beth King, and Amy (Hink) Higginbotham, along with several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Tom King and her nephew Tommy King.

Sandy had a generous spirit and a heart for helping others, especially those less fortunate. Her warmth and compassion touched many lives. She was also a talented and passionate crafter—an avid quilter who also found joy in needle felting and cross-stitching. One of her other favorite pastimes was searching for vintage treasures at auctions and garage sales.

Sandy's legacy is one of love, faith, and service. Her memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to those who loved her.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday November 1, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at RiverTree Massillon located at 1600 Main Ave. West, Massillon OH 44647. A short Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 PM followed by a Memorial Gathering from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
