Sarah Oliphant Suttles, 49, of Houston, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Born in Houston on December 31, 1975, Sarah was the daughter of John Rhodes Oliphant and Nancy Millican Oliphant.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Millican Oliphant, and her brother, John Rhodes Oliphant, Jr. She is survived by her husband, David Picton Suttles, Jr., and their two sons, David Picton Suttles III and Harvey Hillman Suttles, all of Houston. She is also survived by her father, John Rhodes Oliphant, and her brother, James Wayne Oliphant, both of Houston.
Sarah grew up in Houston and attended Lamar High School. She earned her degree from Columbus State University in Georgia. From the time she was a toddler, Sarah devoted herself to ballet, training seriously from the age of eighteen months through her teenage years. She carried that discipline, grace, and love of movement into every part of her life.
A devoted member of her community, Sarah volunteered with Child Advocates of Houston, served as a Sustaining Member of the Junior League of Houston, and was a former member of the Junior League of Columbus, Georgia. She also gave generously of her time to her sons’ activities, including Cub Scouts at The Kinkaid School and Post Oak Little League, where she was a dedicated team mom and constant supporter.
Outside her volunteer work, Sarah found joy in gardening, cooking and travel.
A woman of faith, Sarah was a lifelong Christian who found great comfort and joy in The Church of St. John the Divine in Houston. She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and deep devotion to her family and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Sarah’s life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Main Church of The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard, Houston, Texas. Her ashes will be interred at a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Child Advocates of Houston or to a charity of one’s choice in Sarah’s memory.
