In My Own Words — The Dash of Scott "Scoot" Lynch
I was born on March 4, 1971, to Doug Lynch Sr. and Barb Cappuccio, and this right here—this is my dash. You know, that little line between the dates on a headstone that holds an entire lifetime inside it? Well, this is mine.
Not long after I was born, my family packed up and left New Jersey for Lee County, Florida, where I spent the better part of my short but full life. Being the baby of the family, with four older siblings, let's just say I was never lonely.
Although my birth certificate says "Scott," I answered to a few other names along the way—Scoot and Scooty Poots being fan favorites and Popi by a select few. My siblings each left their mark on me: my sister taught me colors from the rainbow buttons on her favorite shirt and kept the monster at bay when it was angry. My brothers toughened me up with friendly bouts of testosterone-fueled competition, and my other sister became my confidant—my person.
I never was a Boy Scout, but I could play me some football back in the day. I played for the Fort Myers Rebels Pop Warner football team and later for Fort Myers High School, GO GREEN WAVE. I even coached the Lehigh Acres Raiders Pop Warner Football team for a few years when my son Blake played in his youth. For a while, I even ran toward fires instead of away from them as a volunteer firefighter for Bayshore Fire Department. I worked at Publix for many years before heading to North Carolina, where I joined the team at Harris Teeter.
Anyone who knew me knew one thing for sure: I bled garnet and gold. Go Noles!
I loved the outdoors and had a knack for growing things—enough to build a greenhouse in my backyard that could've made Mother Nature herself a little jealous.
When I crossed over, I was greeted by my dad, Doug Lynch Sr., my stepdad, Anthony Cappuccio, my beloved son, Ryan Gaines, my grandparents, and a few faithful pets who were waiting with wagging tails.
I regretfully left behind my children; sons Matthew Lynch (Erica) and Blake Lynch (Nataly), my daughter Marissa, and their mother Tammy Gaines, stepson Zachary Copp (Karissa) and my grandkids, you know, the little humans- Ryan, Haileigh, Elani, Grey, Ryleigh, Braxton, and Adaline, and my loving wife, Julie (Copp).
I also leave behind my siblings: Doug Lynch Jr. (Lisa), Joyce Brown (Rob), Bobby Lynch (Karen), and Patti Collins, and mom, Barb Cappuccio. But wait... there's more: nieces Rachel Wood (CT), Breanna Lynch, Jenn Brown, and nephews Brian Lynch (Stephanie) and Chris Cole.
