Scott Willis

1968 - 2025

Scott Ashley Willis, 57, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on November 11, 2025—Veterans Day—after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 20, 1968, Scott lived a life full of adventure, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved.
Scott was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Driven by a desire to serve his country, he earned a direct commission in the U.S. Navy Reserve, where his engineering and project-management skills made an immediate impact. He served as a supply officer, holding command positions at the Navy base in Jacksonville, Florida, and later completing temporary active duty in San Diego in support of two Navy SEAL teams. Scott achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander, a reflection of his dedication and leadership.
An engineer by profession, Scott earned the trust and respect of everyone who worked with him. A graduate of Clarke Central High School, Young Harris College, and Mercer University, he valued the experiences and relationships he gained far more than any accolades.
Scott was at his happiest outdoors—camping, hiking, diving, or simply sitting around a fire with friends. He loved sharing stories and had a knack for telling them in a way that made people lean in, laugh hard, and remember every detail. Those who knew him best have dozens of great Scott stories, even if many of them may not be entirely fit for print.
Scott's loyalty ran deep. Even when he wasn't the best at keeping in touch, his friends knew without a doubt that if they ever needed anything, he would show up and help in any way he could. That devotion was shaped early in his life; at the age of 31, Scott moved in to care for his mother during the final months of her battle with cancer. It was a profound example of the lengths he would go to and the sacrifices he would make for the people he loved.
Of all the roles Scott held in his life, none meant more to him than being a father. He was endlessly proud of Ashton and Jack, and he talked about them every chance he got. He would beam when sharing stories of their activities—football, swimming, dance, cheerleading—and he bragged often about their academic achievements, work ethic, and dreams for the future. Scott valued hard work above all, and nothing brought him greater joy than seeing that same determination in both of his children.
Scott is survived by his daughter, Ashton Willis; his son, Jack Willis; his father, Jim Willis (Cathy); his brother, Brice Willis (Caroline); his nieces, Virginia Willis and Claire Willis; and the mother of his children, Kara Willis. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laurel Brewer Creech.
A celebration of Scott's life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable donation to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
Scott will be remembered with warmth, laughter, and deep affection by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
