Shirlean Ann Carter, age 88, of Peoria, IL, passed away on October 20, 2025. Born on February 4, 1947, Shirlean dedicated her life to her faith, family, and the field of healthcare.
Shirlean was a devout member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where she actively served her community and participated in various church activities. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her daily life and interactions with those around her.
Professionally, Shirlean was a respected nurse practitioner, specializing in gynecology and obstetrics from 1989 until her retirement in 2005. Her compassion and expertise made a significant impact on the lives of many women and families.
Shirlean's educational journey included her high school years at Ottawa Hills, followed by higher education at Davenport University, where she pursued her passion for healthcare.
Beyond her professional and spiritual life, Shirlean had a passion for painting and cooking, often sharing these joys with her family and friends. Her home was a warm place where memories were made around delicious meals and heartfelt conversations.
Shirlean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Carter; son, Henry Carter Jr.; and sister, Rosie Taylor. She leaves behind a loving family: sisters Lisa Lopez, Tina Williams, Anita Jones, and Staci Jackson; brothers Michael Lopez and Jonathan Lopez; grandchildren Nikitta Brown, Tia Carter, Makayla Rogers, Sierra Norris, and Caleb Cooper; and great-granddaughters A'Laieyah Brown and Destiny Cooper.
Memorial services will be held at the Resurrection Cemetery on October 23, 2025, from 11 am to 1 pm. Attendees are requested to wear purple in honor of Shirlean's favorite color. The address for this service is 4100 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, Michigan 49509. A subsequent service will take place on November 7, 2025, at 11 am at St. Paul's Baptist Church, 114 W. Forrest Hill Ave, Peoria, IL 61604.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Comfort Plus Hospice, supporting a cause close to Shirlean's heart. Her legacy of kindness, devotion, and service will continue to inspire those who knew her.
